AKEの物語

Story of AKE

始まりの糸

お蚕さんから材をいただき、京都西陣で繭から生糸へ、

そして精練・染色されて光沢のある色鮮やかな正絹糸に生まれ変わります。

ここからAKEの物語が始まります。

Threads to start our story

The silk filaments of this card set, which you untie now, is the very essential material to make all the AKE products. Silk material is the gift from silkworms.

It is processed intoraw silk in Nishijin, Kyoto, and after refinement and dying processes shimmering bright colored pure silk threads are produced.

That's where our story of “AKE” starts.

Inheritance from hands to hands

Someone takes over something from someone else in somewhere, and carries on into others, and in time every one of continual transmission is called tradition. Also at Nishijin Workshop dedicatedhands of inheritance are moving to achieve own mission.

AKE Special Production Team Nishijin Workshop

Nishijin area used to be one of bustling commercial hearts in Kyoto and peoplewere coming and going constantly. However, today the traditional Nishijin Textile Industry nurtured in this area has been slumping due to the shortage of successors. NIshijin Workshop was founded in order to bridge this traditional technique and the disabled persons who have strong desires to engage in challenging tasks, and they are committed to foster qualified craft-workers.

With the help of the craft-workers and the community in NIshijin who deeply feel empathy for their desire, the staffs of Nishijin Workshop have been polishing up their techniques through accumulation of experience with time and care in the various operation processes of traditional Nishijin textile and Kyoto braided cords.
